Imagine Alaska
Heard Ribbon Winner
6 1/2"
H x 7" W
This unique lidded box was
inspired by Bernice Naranjo's affection for Alaska, where her
daughter Dusty (also a notable pottery artist) now resides.
Additionally, this piece received
special recognition as a ribbon winner at the annual Heard Museum
Indian Fair & Market in Phoenix Arizona.
Bernice Naranjo is the wife
of Tito Naranjo and the mother of two very well known potters,
Dusty Naranjo and Forrest Naranjo. She has won many awards over
the years including at the Santa Fe Indian Market and the Northern
Indian Pueblos arts and Crafts Show.
Looking at her work, it is
no wonder where Dusty and Forrest got their talent and inspiration.
Bernice shares her daughter's sense of creative adventure working
on various shaped pieces with contrasting colors and textures.
You'll note her unique style in this wonderful piece of sienna
fired pottery that features incising and fine sgraffito on both
flat and highly polished surfaces.
